- Eligibility:
- Anyone over 13 years of age can create an account.
- Children aged 8–12 can create accounts with parental permission.
- It’s recommended that each person has a separate email address for easier account recovery.
- Account Creation:
- You can create a FamilySearch account in several ways:
- Website (Facebook, Google, or Church Account):
- Visit FamilySearch.org.
- Click Create Account.
- Enter the required information and click Continue.
- Choose a username and password.
- Agree to the terms and click Create account.
- Activate your account by checking your email for a confirmation message.
- Mobile App:
- Open the FamilySearch Family Tree or Memories app on your mobile device.
- Tap Sign In.
- Choose to use an existing account or tap Create Free Account..

- After creating your account, consider these recommended actions:
- Review your contact information and notification preferences in your FamilySearch settings.
- On the mobile app, tap the three lines (menu) icon, then tap Settings, and finally select Account.
- If you encounter any issues, feel free to contact FamilySearch Support.
- Notes for Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:
- If you already have a Church account for the Church website or apps (such as Tools), you do not need a separate account for FamilySearch.org.
- Use the Sign In with Church Account option.
- To add your Church record number to an existing account:
- Go to your Account Settings.
- On the mobile Tree or Memories app, tap the three lines (menu) icon, then tap Settings, and finally select Account.
- At the bottom of the page, click Add Church Record Number.
